Minor Issue Reported With Volusia County Vote-By-Mail Return Envelopes

Posted

DeLand, FL - Vote-by-mail ballots for Volusia County went out in the mail a week ago today and there's a minor problem being reported with the return envelopes. Supervisor of Elections Lisa Lewis says the issue has to do with sealing the envelopes. "Some of our envelopes have the peel and stick that we had left from the primary. When we ordered new ones, it was going to take a little longer to put the peel and stick on there so we went with the glue strip."

The problem with the glue strip is that it doesn't stick very well. Lewis said several voters called about it. She said using other ways to seal the envelope is perfectly fine. "I just want voters to know you can tape it closed. Make sure it's secure. You can use tape. Some people use masking tape, some use duct tape, some use stickers all the way around, scotch tape. It is perfectly fine. It does not invalidate your ballot."

Lewis said there are a couple of other items she'd like to alleviate concerns over.

  • If you forget to put your ballot in the secrecy sleeve, it will not invalidate your ballot.
  • If you do not vote in all races or don't answer all the questions, it will not invalidate your vote.

“The most important thing is your signature. You must remember to sign the envelope” Lewis stated.

You can request a mail-in ballot through October 24.

Voters have several options in returning their voted vote-by-mail ballot.

1. Mailing via the USPS;
2. Placing in our 24-hour secure drop box outside of our office in DeLand; or
3. Returning to an Early Voting site during Early Voting hours.
