Tallahassee, FL - Florida’s largest physician and hospital groups are going on radio and television to urge people to get vaccinated against COVID-19.

The Florida Medical Association and the Florida Hospital Association released public-service announcements Thursday that are expected to be broadcast across the state.

“The overwhelming majority of the people currently hospitalized with COVID-19 in Florida are unvaccinated,” Mary Mayhew, president and CEO of the Florida Hospital Association, said in a statement Thursday. “The delta variant is ravaging younger and unvaccinated people.”

Florida has been a hot spot for the spread of the highly contagious delta variant of the coronavirus, reporting 23,335 new cases on Tuesday, according to the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The state had a seven-day “moving” average of 21,569 new cases as of Tuesday.
