Deltona, FL - A man was shot and killed by a Volusia County Sheriff's deputy on Thursday afternoon in Deltona after he grabbed the deputy's taser.

Two deputies went to the RaceTrac gas-station at 2001 Saxon Blvd. after a call came in at around 4:13 PM about a suspicious man who was in the store's bathroom for almost an hour and a half, running around shirtless.

The first deputy got to the RaceTrac at 4:19 PM and found the man in the bathroom with drug paraphernalia on the sink. The deputy tried to calm the man down and take him into custody, and when the second deputy arrived they tried to secure the man but he resisted. During the struggle, the man was able to take the second deputy's taser. In response, that deputy pulled his duty weapon and fired.

The deputies weren't injured during the incident but the wounded man died at the scene.

VCSO says the identity of the deceased and the deputies involved will be released in a later update. The FDLE will investigate the shooting and the deputy who fired his weapon has been placed on temporary administrative leave with pay.
