DeLand, FL - Volusia County Sheriff's investigators say 37-year-old Scott McDermott is accused of sexually abusing a teen girl while he was living in her home. It started when she was learning to drive. Investigators say that McDermott told the girl she needed to learn to drive with distractions, touching her chest and lower body. He went on to force the girl into sex acts.

When asked why she did not tell anyone about the abuse sooner, the victim reported an incident where she told McDermott she was going to tell her family about the abuse. He put a gun on a nightstand and told her if she ever told anyone what he was doing, he would kill her mother, brother, and sister.

The abuse went on for four years before the girl told her family last February. Her father reported it to VCSO. McDermott was arrested last Saturday and charged with sexual battery-engaging in sexual conduct with a minor between 12 and 18 years of age.

McDermott's bond was set at $25,000 and he bonded out the next day. His arraignment is set for September 12.
