Man Kills Father, Self in Deltona Home, VSO Says

Posted

A man from Deltona fatally shot his father and himself this weekend, according to a statement by the Volusia Sheriff's Office. 34-year-old Travis Demarco and 55-year-old Daniel Demarco were found dead in their homes on Sunday.

According to the VSO's report, Travis was diagnosed with a serious mental illness a year prior to the shooting, and he'd been struggling with it ever since. His father was reportedly helping him deal with the issue and receive treatment, but had become worried.

The exact circumstances of the shooting remain unclear, but on Sunday morning VSO deputies responded to a home on Sumatra Ave after their bodies were found by another resident at around 11:30 am. They'd reportedly been trying to contact Daniel by phone before finding him deceased.

An investigation by the VSO is ongoing as of Monday, and additional details will be added to this story as they become available.
