Deltona, FL - A 25-year-old Deltona man is being held without bond after he tried breaking into a home with a crowbar then forcibly stole the homeowners car keys. Volusia Sheriff's deputies say Julian Portillo was arrested yesterday (October 16) for the incident that took place last Sunday (October 11).

VSO was contacted by the homeowner at 1:30 a.m. on Sunday about someone trying to break into his home with a crowbar. When he went out to confront the suspect, they wrestled for the crowbar and the victim says the suspect 'forcibly' took the keys from his pants pocket and drove off in his car.

Volusia Sheriff’s detectives and Deltona Crime Suppression Team deputies were conducting proactive patrols on Friday evening when they spotted a Honda Civic with an expired license plate parked in front of Portillo’s residence, 1391 Bladon Avenue. The car had been reported stolen in Winter Garden. A traffic stop was conducted and Portillo was taken into custody.

During the investigation of that stolen vehicle, they found the license plate and key fob to the car that was stolen last Sunday. A search of Prtillo's property found the vehicle in the backyard partially concealed by a car cover.

Portillo is charged with grand theft motor vehicle of both vehicles, armed carjacking, armed burglary of an occupied residence, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, criminal mischief and having no driver’s license. There's no bond allowed on the armed carjacking charge.
