DeBary, FL - A DeBary man's misguided sense of humor lands him in jail.  The Volusia Sheriff's Office says 49-year-old Christopher Canfora coughed in the face of a cashier at the Harbor Freight store in Orange City after commenting on the social distancing markers, then said,  “This is all getting out of hand.”

The cashier told deputies that Canfora also said ' that he does the same to people wearing masks when he sees them, and he was planning on going to another store (Winn-Dixie) and doing it some more.'

When deputies went to Canfora's home to arrest him yesterday (April 7), he told them he didn’t expect anyone to understand his sense of humor and he couldn’t remember exactly what he said at Harbor Freight.  He also denied coughing on anyone and said he did not have any symptoms associated with COVID-19.

Canfora was arrested, taken to Volusia County Jail, charged with Aggravated Assault with Intent to Commit a Felony. He has since been released on a $5,000 bond.
