Investigation Into VSO Lieutenant's Actions Leads To His Resignation

DeLand, FL -  The internal investigation into Volusia Sheriff's Office Lieutenant James Day's actions on the day of an out-of-control block party in DeLand on May 16 conclude that he was derelict in his duties.

The report states that Day was to act as incident commander for the block party. His supervisor requested the inquiry after he determined that Day “neglected his duties as the Operational Commander related to the planned enforcement response.

The conclusion of the investigation is that Day violated eight department policies, including Endangering Others Through Neglect, which is cause for dismissal.

Day resigned on June eleventh, well before the completion of the investigation on July eighth.
