Holly Hill Police Chief Resigns Amid Misconduct Allegations

Posted

Holly Hill Police Chief Jeffrey Miller has resigned from his position, according to the city government. Miller's abrupt stepping down has thrown the HHPD into a state of disarray as it's without a primary leader or an established community outreach leader.

The resignation was reportedly related to allegations of 'inappropriate incidents involving a police sergeant' which came to light a few weeks ago. The specifics of this conduct are still unclear, but they've now led to a police department without a chief.

"As this investigation unfolded, today I was informed that additional accusations emerged implicating the Chief and Captain, prompting a necessary expansion of the inquiry," said Holly Hill City Manager Joe Forte. "In accordance with established protocol, individuals under investigation are placed on suspension with paid leave. Consequently, Chief Miller verbally tendered his resignation with immediate effect, while Captain Yates was placed on paid leave pending further investigation. Sergeant Fountain was similarly suspended and placed on paid leave."

The Volusia Sheriff's Office will be assisting with some of the law enforcement workload within Holly Hill while the department is recovering from their tumultuous leadership transition, and they've also been tapped to conduct an internal investigation into Miller's conduct with the HHPD. Little else is known about the ordeal as of Friday afternoon.
