Florida Legislature Convenes - Bills Filed By Local Legislators

Tallahassee, FL - The Florida Legislature convenes today and local legislators are sponsoring a number of bills on multiple issues.

District 25 Representative Tom Leek and District 26 Representative Elizabeth Fetterhoff co-sponsored a bill with District 14 Senator Tom Wright last year prohibiting bail to "specified offenders pending review" following conviction of a sex crime involving a minor that required registering for an offender or predator status in the state.  This year, Leek has a bill that would prohibit a court from granting time-sharing with a minor child to a parent registered as a sexual offender or sexual predator under certain circumstances, etc. You can find other bills sponsored by Leek at myfloridahouse.gov.

Fetterhoff's name is on 17 bills this session, one of which was written by local animal rights activist Debbie Taylor Darino, that revises the elements of certain animal cruelty offenses; defining the term “adequate shelter”; prohibiting the failure to provide an animal adequate shelter; providing criminal penalties, etc. You can see the other bills sponsored by Fetterhoff at myfloridahouse.gov

Wright, a strong advocate for veterans, has sponsored 19 bills and co-sponsored two more. This year, Senate Bill 586, calls for directing Florida Is For Veterans, Inc., to serve as the state’s principal assistance organization under the United States Department of Defense’s SkillBridge program; prescribing duties of the corporation to facilitate the administration of the SkillBridge program, etc. The bills sponsored by Wright can be found at flsenate.gov
