Deltona, FL - A suspect that was found speeding through Volusia County with a stolen car ends up in handcuffs after he tried to hide inside a woman's Deltona home Tuesday morning (October 20th).

Deputies say a license plate reader in the northwest part of the county reported a stolen Mercedes Benz just before 9:00 in the morning. Minutes after it was spotted, the suspect also fled from a DeLand police officer who was attempting to conduct a traffic stop.

Air One eventually found the vehicle traveling at high rates of speed, until it eventually stopped at a house on Arrendonda Drive in Deltona, where it pulled into the garage.

The Volusia Sheriff's Office then set up a perimeter, closed surrounding streets and began to make announcements over a loudspeaker to the occupants of the Deltona home. Following several phone calls, two occupants—the suspect and a resident—left the home and were secured without incident.

The resident who followed the suspect out told deputies that she was preparing to leave when the vehicle pulled up to her home and the driver demanded that she open the garage so he could hide the car.

The driver, who remains unidentified at this time, was arrested and charged with grand theft of a motor vehicle, burglary and fleeing or attempting to elude law enforcement. Deputies say the Mercedes was initially reported stolen out of Orlando after someone purchased the car using a fake identity.

A ski mask and a pair of gloves were also recovered from the vehicle.
