FDOH - Volusia Preparing For COVID-19 Vaccine For Young Children

Posted

Daytona Beach, FL - Now that there is a COVID-19 vaccine available for children ages 5 -11, parents are trying to figure out their next step. Ethan Johnson, Florida Department of Health - Volusia Assistant Director of Community Health Services said that doses of the Pfizer vaccine for those younger children are available at local pharmacies. "I believe, specifically, CVS and Walgreens. If you go to vaccine.gov they have a vaccine locater. You can select 5 to 11-year-olds and your zip code and it will tell you where it's available."

FDOH should get doses of the vaccine sometime next week. Johnson said they should be able to order by November 9. "We plan to provide that vaccine at all four of our clinics, two of which are in Daytona Beach, on Holsonback and Keech St., and then, of course, we have the New Smyrna Beach clinic as well as the clinic in Orange City."

Johnson said the step after that would be to push the vaccine out into the community through partnerships with other service providers, Volusia County Schools, as well as other vaccine providers. "In the coming weeks, look out for that toward the end of November and then in December, for some vaccination clinics to be set up in the community."
