FCSO: Charges Two In Bomb Threat & Several BB-Gun Shootings

Palm Coast, FL -  Two teens were involved in a bomb threat and several reported bb-gun shootings over the weekend, according to Flagler County Sheriff's (FCSO) deputies. Charged are 18-year-old Christian Boyd and 16-year-old Kyle Sanderson.

The spree started Saturday (February 27) evening, when deputies responded to the Palm Coast Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC)  located at 3 Old Kings Road for a bomb threat made to the establishment. The restaurant and drive-thru were temporarily closed while the FCSO Explosive Detection K-9 Unit conducted a sweep of the building. No explosives were located.

Boyd and Sanderson continued the spree yesterday (February 28) afternoon at Ralph Carter Park. Two juveniles who were playing basketball at the park contacted FCSO after a dark-colored Ford F-150 truck drove past and fired rounds from a BB-gun at the juveniles. One of them was hit and received a minor injury.

A short time later, just after 3 p.m., a driver reported hearing two pops and then the rear windshield shattering as she traveled down the road. About 15 minutes later, deputies responded to the Palm Coast Walmart after a caller stated the rear window of his vehicle was broken while he was shopping inside the store. Both incidents were determined to be caused by a BB pellet from a BB-gun.

Security cameras near the park were reviewed which revealed two men in the Ford F-150. Store surveillance from the Walmart showed a dark-colored Ford F-150 truck pass by the victim’s vehicle while the window shatters.

The investigation of the KFC incident was able to trace the phone number used to call in the bomb threat back to Sanderson, who lives on Essington Lane in Palm Coast. The Ford F-150 involved in the BB-gun incidents is registered to Sandra Sanderson, Kyle’s mother. She confirmed that one of the suspects was Kyle and that the suspect vehicle was her truck, which he often drives. She also gave FCSO permission to talk to her son.

Sanderson admitted to deputies that he and his friend, Boyd, was involved in all of the incidents. He also told them that Boyd made the prank call to KFC from Kyle’s phone on Saturday night and fired rounds from the BB gun at the people playing basketball and the vehicles.

“I want to start by commending our team on a job well done this weekend,” Sheriff Rick Staly said. “Not only did these two wreak havoc throughout the community by dangerously firing BB guns at incident bystanders, but they caused a great deal of resources to be tied up for hours investigating a false report of a bomb and the various shootings. They are very lucky that they didn’t cause any serious injuries, however, they damaged two vehicles and instilled fear in many people through their actions. I hope they turn their life around and the courts teach them a serious and strong lessen.”

Boyd is charged with False Report of Bomb Threat, Battery, Criminal Mischief, and Shooting Projectile Into An Occupied Vehicle. His bond was set at $9,000. He was released earlier today (March 1).

Sanderson is charged as an accessory to the same crimes. He was turned over to the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice and released to his parents pending a future court date.
