New Smyrna Beach, FL - A 16-year-old student is facing felony charges after the FBI caught wind of a threat he made against his school.
According to the report from the Volusia County Sheriff's Office, members of the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force was notified this morning (April 24th), about a comment that was left on a YouTube video about the 1999 Columbine shooting.
In the comment section of the video, authorities found a student that was involved in a discussion about the shooting, commenting: "...the shooting was the best thing I ever found out about, I plan to do the same thing my senior year, it's *CENSORED* coming."
That comment was reported to the FBI through a tip line.
Initially, the comment was traced back to an account in Hawaii. Later, authorities found out that the student recently moved from Hawaii to Volusia County.
Eventually, the Edgewater teen was identified and charged with felony threats to discharge a destructive device.
Inside the student's backpack, a deputy located several graphic drawing depicting violence.
These drawings were similar to drawings reported by a school resource officer at the student's previous school in Hawaii.
