EMS Building To Be Dedicated to Paramedic Who Died From COVID-19

New Smyrna Beach, FL - A paramedic with Volusia County Emergency Medical Services for 21 years will be remembered at a dedication ceremony tomorrow (May 19). Gerald "Jerry" Jones died from COVID-19 complications on September 20, 2021.

Volusia County officials say that Jones was looking forward to working in the new office, located next to Volusia County Fire Rescue Station 23, located at 1800 Pioneer Trail in New Smyrna Beach.

The dedication at the new emergency medical services building begins at 2 p.m.

"Gerald emulated excellence, quality, and commitment in a life of service to the residents of Volusia County,” said Emergency Medical Services Director Jason Brady. “Volusia County EMS will never forget Gerald, and his memory will remain a permanent fixture at Station 23.”

Jones, a U.S. Navy veteran, is survived by his wife, Emily, and son Joshua.
