DSC Documentary Screening Highlights WWII Pilots And Planes

Wings of Victory

Daytona Beach, FL-If you're looking for a good story, a free screening will take place of a Telly Award-winning documentary on Monday. "Wings of Victory: Keeping Our Warbirds Flying" looks at the increasingly rare American military aircraft that helped allied forces win World War II.

Hector Valle, executive producer of the documentary and a senior instructional technologist in DSC’s Center for Interactive Media, said the goal was to find a story that was relatable to people in the community, which brought him to New Smyrna Beach-based American Aero Services. The company restores and maintains these treasures of American history and some of them are part of the Collings Foundation Wings of Victory Tour.

Those that attend the showing will experience the restoration of a P-51 Mustang and ride along in the iconic “Nine-O-Nine” B-17 and the B-24 Liberator “Witchcraft” as they take to the skies at the start of their 2015 nationwide tour.

The event will feature a panel discussion by representatives of the vintage plane restoration company as well as the military veterans who flew the warbirds in battle.

Daytona State College’s own WDSC TV 15 is hosting the free screening of “Wings of Victory: Keeping our Warbirds Flying” on Monday, May 23, 6:30 p.m., at the college’s News-Journal Center, 221 N. Beach St. in downtown Daytona Beach.
