Department Of Health Opens New Daytona Location

Daytona Beach, FL - The Florida Department of Health in Volusia County is taking its health services to the heart of Daytona Beach.

And that new location, known as the "South Side Health Zone," will be found off of 421 South Keech Street.

"We want to make it easier for our clients to access our services," said DOH-Volusia Administrator Patricia Boswell. "It just makes sense for us to be located right in the community where many of our clients live."

And according to Holly Smith, the Communication Manager for DOH-Volusia, they've managed to secure a great location.

"The South Side Health Zone will be right next to the county's public library, the Halifax Health community medical center," said Smith. "And Head Start is also on the property, so you have four buildings in a row to serve the community without duplicating services."

DOH will also be phasing in new services over the next two months. Tomorrow (March 1st), the Women, Infants and Children Program will begin offering supplemental nutrition and education to pregnant, postpartum or breastfeeding women, including children up to age 5.

Limited dental care for children up to age 5 will be available.

Coming next month (April 1st), the new location will include birth control for men and women, pregnancy testing, breast exams, Pap smears, shots for children and adults and testing and treating for STD's and HIV.

To celebrate the new location, DOH will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony at 9:30 a.m. on April 27th. The Volusia County Council and elected officials from Daytona Beach will be in attendance.

An open house and family fun day will follow the ribbon cutting, running from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
