Deltona, FL - Two men are facing burglary charges while one remains in the hospital recovering from a gunshot wound after he was shot by a homeowner.

The Volusia Sheriff's Office says the 57-year-old homeowner found 39-year-old Justin Lee Braddock rummaging through his vehicle around four o'clock this morning (April 21st) off of Abagail Drive. According to the report, the homeowner told a dispatcher after the fact that he saw someone using a flashlight inside his green Nissan Altima at 3:45.

After spotting Braddock, the homeowner retreated inside to grab his Glock handgun and his flashlight before confronting him. When confronted, Braddock shoved the homeowner, knocking him to the ground as they struggled.

During the altercation, the homeowner said he watched as Braddock reached for his backpack, which prompted him to fire his handgun at him. Rhe homeowner knew his bullet hit the burglar, but he didn’t know where.

Braddock then fled from the scene. Moments later, a white SUV picked him up and drove off. Once Braddock was gone, the homeowner called law enforcement to report the burglary and shooting.

Not even half an hour later, VSO received reports that a male gunshot victim had shown up at Central Florida Regional Hospital in Sanford. Deputies responded and confirmed the vehicle Braddock arrived in was the same white SUV he used to leave the car break scene.

Deputies later learned that Braddock was driven to the hospital by a man and a woman, identified as 30-year-old Darrell Cantrell and Amy Eland, both of Deltona.

After interviewing the pair, detectives determined Cantrell worked with Braddock while committing car burglaries and serving as the lookout and getaway driver. Cantrell was arrested and charged with burglary of a conveyance, conspiracy to commit burglary of a conveyance and obstruction of criminal investigation. He remains at the Seminole County Jail with bail of $16,500.

Deputies determined Eland’s only involvement was to help stop Braddock’s bleeding as they drove him to the hospital.

Braddock underwent surgery this afternoon and is now recovering in the custody of the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office at the hospital. He is charged with burglary of a conveyance, conspiracy to commit burglary of a conveyance and battery to cause bodily harm with bail set at $30,000.
