DeLand, FL – Downtown DeLand is a quarterfinalist in the nationwide search for America’s Main Street.

Along with the MainStreet DeLand Association, Downtown DeLand is in the running to win a prize of $25,000 through the contest created by Stihl Inc. and Independent We Stand, an organization dedicated to growing and raising awareness of local businesses.

242 Main Streets were voted down to 25 quarterfinalists with 156,000 votes made in just the 1st round. Deland is one of only 2 cities in the Southeast and the only city in Florida to still be in the competition.

“We are in our 2nd year of the contest and are so happy to see the passion and pride these nominees have for their Main Streets and the local businesses that keep them alive,” said Bill Brunelle, co-founder of Independent We Stand. “Now, it’s time for consumers to show their support and vote again for these amazing quarterfinalists.”

Voting is currently open as of 10 AM on May 1, and will stay open through May 28. The top 10 cities with the most votes will be judged and the winner will be selected on June 5.

You are encouraged to vote here once per day, per IP address.

“It’s a credit to the community and the people that have worked to make this a great downtown,” said Wayne Carter, Executive Director of the DeLand MainStreet Association. “We’re honored to be considered for this award.”

If Downtown DeLand were to win this award, they could add the honor to their 1997 Great American Main Street Award win and best Main Street in Florida win from 1999-2003.

“We’re excited to be a quarterfinalist,” said Bob Apgar, the mayor of DeLand. “Our community is very proud of our downtown. DeLandites near and far always respond to support our downtown in contests of this nature. I hope everyone will continue voting to help us get to the finish line.”
