Earlier reporting below.

New Smyrna Beach, FL - An officer with the Daytona Beach Police Department is now facing charges after police in New Smyrna Beach arrest him for stabbing a victim in the stomach outside of a bar.

Witnesses say everything stems from an altercation between the defendant—who has been identified as 50-year-old Shane Jackson, an officer with Daytona Beach police—and the victim at a pub off Flagler Avenue around 11:30 Wednesday night (March 10th).

As a result of the fight, both Jackson and the victim were asked to leave the establishment. Not long after they were told to leave, another altercation between the group and the defendant began in front of another bar.

According to the New Smyrna Beach Police Department (NSBPD), Jackson grabbed the victim in that altercation and a struggle ensued, during which the victim was stabbed in the stomach. After the stabbing, Jackson attempted to walk away from the bar, but was soon stopped by one of the bar's security guards. He was subsequently arrested and charged with aggravated battery.

Police said the victim was taken to the hospital in critical but stable condition.

Upon further investigation, investigators determined that probable cause existed to charge Jackson with attempted premeditated murder. His charges were later amended. NSBPD added that the Daytona Beach Police Department has been made aware of the incident.

Last year, Jackson was injured during an officer involved shooting. In that incident, a Daytona Beach police officer shot and killed 44-year-old Michael Harris—an attempted murder suspect—who fired on police, striking one Daytona Beach officer in the chest. Jackson tripped and broke his neck as the gunfire erupted.
