DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Daytona Beach Police Department has released the first update since Sunday's fatal shooting, naming their prime suspect. According to the DBPD's Tuesday statement, Danitto Simpson has been linked to the incident and is the agency's prime suspect.

Prior to the shooting Sunday, Simpson was already wanted in Volusia County on a warrant for aggravated battery on a pregnant person. If and when he's arrested, he will be facing multiple felony charges.

The shooting took place at around 11:45 pm on Sunday, at 505 Jean Street in Daytona Beach. A 911 caller initially reported a stabbing, but first responders quickly determined the victim's wounds were actually from a gunshot wound. Despite life-saving efforts both at the scene and at Halifax Hospital, 24-year-old Donnell Williams succumbed to his injuries.

The DBPD's investigation into the homicide is underway, and little else is currently known. Those with information that may help in the investigation are asked to contact Detective Zachary Ravi at (386) 671-5245, or call Crime Stoppers at 1-888-277-TIPS.
