DBPD Community Prayer Vigil This Evening

Daytona Beach, FL - As a reaction to gun violence in the city of Daytona Beach, the Police Department is asking residents to join in on the "Peace for Our Streets" community prayer vigil this evening at the John H. Dickerson Community Center.

During the last two weeks of November, three separate incidents took the lives of three men:

  • The first shooting happened on November 17, when Sammy Watson was shot in the driveway of his home on Margie Lane. He was hospitalized but succumbed to his injuries eight days later.
  • The second shooting ended the life of 18-year-old Eric Gordon. He was found shot to death in a car outside of Campbell Middle School.
  • A third shooting took place on November 27, when Fausto Flores-Hernandez heard gunshots outside of his home. He opened the front door to see what was happening and was hit in the head by a bullet.

On November 29, what appears to be a murder-suicide took place between a man and wife at Daytona Beach Health & Rehabilitation. On November 30, DBPD found two people dead, also an apparent murder-suicide, in a car on Lockhart Street.

It's now December and two young men, both 21-years-of-age, are dead. One man shot the other several times. The shooter was still on scene when police officers arrived on the scene. He ran and shot at police when they approached him. Officers returned fire, resulting in his death.

Tonight's event begins at 6 p.m. The John H. Dickerson Community Center is located at 308 S. Dr. Martin Luther King Drive in Daytona Beach.
