Daytona Beach, FL - The state is investigating after firefighters discover the body of a woman as they battled a fire.

According to an email from Daytona Beach Fire Department (DBFD) spokesperson Sasha Staton, the Daytona Beach Police Department (DBPD) was called to a home on Cannon Street for a domestic disturbance on Sunday (August 22). When officers arrived they found flames coming from the house and requested fire response.

As firefighters battled the flames they discovered the remains of a woman on the ground. The cause of her death is not known at this time.

The fire has since been put out and the location is now a crime scene. The State Fire Marshal has been called in to investigate as the circumstances have been deemed suspicious.

Staton added that one cat was pulled from the fire, but the department is unsure of the animal's condition at this time.

We will pass along updates as they come.
