The Daytona Beach Area Convention & Visitors Bureau was honored last week at the 2024 Florida Governor's Conference on Tourism. The group was given a Flagler Award, a designation doled out by Visit Florida, the state government's main tourism arm.

The convention, which took place at the Tampa Convention Center in Tampa from August 28th to 30th, gathered an audience of consumers, media, meeting professionals, and travel professionals according to the event's online listing. Among the festivities of the convention was the awarding of the Flagler Awards, given to groups which helps maintain Florida's status as a strong tourism destination.

The awards were named for Henry Flagler, the founder of Standard Oil who developed and built up much of the roads, rails, and commerce on Florida's east coast in the 19th century. He constructed the Florida East Coast Railway as well as the Ponce de Leon Hotel in St. Augustine, which now hosts Flagler College. He's also the namesake of Flagler County, Flagler Monument Island in Biscayne Bay, Flagler Hospital, and the Henry Morrison Flagler Museum among several other landmarks and establishments.

The category in the Flagler Awards which resulted in an honor for the Daytona CVB was the Silver Award in the Radio Advertising category, bestowed upon them for a radio commercial they aired in the New York City area. The CVB worked with its partners to create the ad, which sought to bring northerners to the area's beaches and businesses.

"We are honored to receive a Flagler Award from Visit Florida at the recent Florida Governor's Conference," said Executive Director Lori Campbell Baker. "The entire team works diligently to showcase Daytona Beach as a unique and exciting destination for travelers to visit and this recognition from Visit Florida is a testament to all the hard work done by our Board, the Halifax Area Advertising Authority, The Zimmerman Agency, our agency of record, and our marketing team, under the leadership of CVB Director of Marketing & Design, Kay Galloway."
