Daytona Man Charged With Sexual Battery On A Child

Daytona Beach, FL - A 32-year-old Daytona Beach man is charged with sexual battery on a child under 12 a month after a warrant was signed for his arrest.

The Volusia Sheriff's Office (VSO) says Brandon Miles was arrested on Wednesday (July 28) on a warrant that was signed back on June 7.

According to investigators, the Child Exploitation Unit of the VSO began their investigation in December 2020 after two juveniles reported a sex offense that had occurred on Christmas Eve at a Daytona Beach shelter where they were living as a family.

On Christmas Day, detectives were called to the Halifax Health Medical Center where the children's mother advised that the victims said Miles had touched them inappropriately, which included the incident that had occurred the night before. The mother reportedly confronted Miles, who denied the allegations and told her to have the children examined at the hospital.

Investigators later responded to the hospital to interview the victims. Later on, the Child Protection Team in Daytona Beach joined the investigation and also interviewed both children. According to deputies, one medical exam was completed on one child but not the other one due to the time lapse of the alleged assault.

Based on the statements and evidence gathered by investigators, which includes physical evidence submitted to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, charges were filed with the State Attorney's Office. Subsequently, law enforcement was granted a warrant for Miles arrest on June 7. He now remains in the Volusia County Branch Jail on no bond.

Anyone who may have been a victim or who has additional information to provide is urged to call the Child Exploitation Unit at (386) 323-3574.
