Palm Coast, FL - A couple that tried to run from Flagler County deputies and a mother that lied about the car being stolen means a family is now facing multiple charges.
The Flagler County Sheriff's Office stated in a release that they attempted to pull over a Nissan Altima for a broken tag light back on Tuesday night (August 12th). Deputies report that the car did not immediately pull over. When it did, the vehicle was reportedly never placed in park.
As the deputy approached, the vehicle took off. Per the release, the deputy was clearly able to see the male driver and a female passenger since the window was rolled down. Deputies also report that the vehicle drove at a high rate of speed with "no regard for the safety of others."
Additionally, deputies did not chase the vehicle.
However, the vehicle was later found abandoned in a cul-de-sac on Magnolia Trace Boulevard in Palm Coast near a wooded area. A perimeter was then established and a K-9 Unit responded to the scene along with an Air One helicopter from the Volusia Sheriff's Office.
At the scene, deputies issued multiple commands for the subjects to come out of the wooded area, which went ignored. After they received no responses, authorities sent in a K-9 unit. Once the unit came close to them, the subjects surrendered.
The driver, identified by FCSO as 24-year-old Markee Webb, was arrested and charged with aggravated fleeing and eluding, driving without a license and resisting arrest. The passenger, identified as 29-year-old Keydra Daynay Lyons, was only charged with resisting arrest.
But, while deputies dealt with Webb and Lyons, 47-year-old Contina Smith, who deputies identified as Webb's mother, called FCSO to report the vehicle stolen. A quick investigation into the claim found that Webb spoke to his mother while hiding in the woods. According to their report, Smith admitted to knowing her son had the vehicle and it was not stolen. She was then arrested and charged with filing a false police report.
All three subjects have since bonded out of jail. Webb's bond was set at $6,000 while Lyons' and Smith's was set at $500 each.
