Ormond Beach, FL - The Volusia Sheriff's Office is investigating after a confrontation between two friends turns deadly, leaving one shot dead.

Deputies received a call about the shooting around 8:30 Friday night (January 8th) at a Avenue I residence in Ormond Beach. The shooter, a 34-year-old man, was the one who contacted law enforcement following the incident. He remained on scene to provide his account of what happened.

He reported that he and his friend, who investigators have identified as 34-year-old William Bay, were outside the home when Bay pointed a pitchfork at him in a threatening manner. The shooter, who was armed with a handgun, asked his friend to put it down, which he did. But then the shooter reported that Bay began to advance towards him aggressively, which is when he fired.

The shooter told investigators that he was afraid for his life and his wife's, as she was home at the time. The victim, who lived in a separate structure on the property, was pronounced dead at the scene.

No charges have been filed as the investigation continues.
