Coast Guard Rescues Six From Disappearing Island

New Smyrna Beach, FL - Six family members, four adults, and two children, are safe and sound after being rescued yesterday (September 7). A boat crew from Coast Guard Station Ponce De Leon Inlet rescued the family.

At around 7 p.m., Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville command center watchstanders received a report from a boat operator stating he was aground and had left his six family members on the island. 

The wife of the boat operator contacted the Ponce De Leon Inlet station asking for assistance as it was getting dark and the children were possibly dehydrated. 

The family was rescued and none of them required medical attention.
