Candidate Darryl Boyer, Ex-Commissioner Joe Mullins Selected as RNC Delegates

Two Flagler County politicians were chosen as delegates in the 2024 Republican National Convention. One is Darryl Boyer, a current GOP candidate for the Florida House of Representatives in District 19. The other is Joe Mullins, a former Flagler County Commissioner who served from 2018 to 2022.

Both Boyer and Mullins will be casting their votes for former President Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee and winner of the 2024 Florida Republican presidential primary. The Republican National Convention is set to take place in Milwaukee, Wisconsin from July 15th to July 18th.

Boyer and Mullins will be among 2,429 delegates casting their votes to officially set the Republican nominee. Donald Trump currently has 1,863 pledged delegates, well over the 1,215 needed to clinch. Former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley has 96 pledged delegates, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has nine, and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy has three. All three of these candidates have dropped out of the race, paving the way for Trump to be the Republican nominee for the third straight election.

Having declared his candidacy last year, Boyer is running to be successor to Paul Renner, the Speaker of the Florida House who's term-limited at the end of the year. Boyer has worked in Renner's office and is considered a protege of the Speaker, who's been one of Florida's top Republican legislators for the last couple terms. He is one of four Republicans running for the seat, alongside Sam Greco, Matthew Nellans, and James St. George. The GOP nominee will likely face Adam Morley, the lone Democratic candidate.

Mullins is one-term County Commissioner who was initially elected in the 2018 midterm cycle. He quickly became one of the county's most discussed elected officials, often fending off criticism for his words and actions. This came to a head in 2022, when he received national media coverage for a speeding citation on I-4. He was defeated in the 2022 Republican primary election by Leann Pennington, who went on to win the seat in the general election.

"It's an honor and privilege to serve my community once again as I represent the greatest counties that make up the CD6, and one of the greatest states in our nation," Mullins said. "I look forward to casting out vote for President Donald J. Trump as the nominee for the Republican Party at the highest level of political discourse."

Boyer and Mullins will represent Florida's 6th congressional district at the Convention, alongside Putnam County's Jeff Rawls, Volusia County's FausTina Guzman-Trump and David Baldauff, and Lake County's Ralph Smith.
