Deltona, FL - A 13-year-old boy is charged with written threats to kill or commit a mass shooting after a social media post he made was reported by a number of people.

The Volusia Sheriff's Office says tips started coming in last Friday (January 17) when several people saw a post on an Instagram account with the name “shooting_up_heritage_middle_” with a bio stating “IM COMING,” “i am shooting up heritage middle school Thursday, January 23” and “yourdoneheritage.com.” The boy was identified and arrested over the past weekend.

Deputies worked with the Domestic Security Unit and Volusia County Crime Center to trace the Instagram account to a Deltona address, where they found the boy who created the account. He told deputies he was only joking but after being interviewed on Saturday he was taken into custody and charged. He was transported to the Department of Juvenile Justice.
