DeLand, FL - A 54-year-old DeLand woman is in the hospital now but will be headed to the Volusia County Jail when she is released. Volusia Sheriff's deputies say Julie Edwards was shot in the leg by her 76-year-old mother during a domestic violence incident. This was not the first time Edwards has been arrested for battering her own mother but it is the fourth time since June of 2019.

The victim told deputies that Edwards came back to the house around 4 p.m. yesterday (April 23) after an earlier disturbance. She reports that Edwards came in, took off all of her clothes and started hitting her in the chest. The victim got her .22 caliber handgun and kept it in her pocket. Edwards started hitting her and the victim warned if she hit her again, she would shoot. Edwards hit her again and the victim shot her in the leg.

Edwards is already on probation for aggravated battery on a person 65 or older. Last February, she was arrested for DUI and additionally charged with making threats against a law enforcement officer, which were recorded on the arresting deputy’s body camera.
