A 7-year-old girl tragically passed away on Saturday after being pulled from a backyard swimming pool in Deltona. The Volusia Sheriff's Office released a statement detailing the tragedy, in which they did not indicate any suspicion of criminal activity.

According to the VSO, deputies were called to respond to the 2200 block of Harding Circle in Deltona at approximately 9:30 pm on Saturday. The call was placed to a home with multiple kids.

The adoptive mother of the girl spoke to detectives, saying that her 7-year-old daughter had a history of epilepsy and was swimming in their pool that evening. The mother reportedly saw the girl's lips begin to turn blue, which the VSO said was an apparent sign that a seizure was on the verge of beginning.

The mother told detectives that she told the girl to come out of the pool and sit on an outdoor couch nearby as she went inside to address a matter with her other child. It was only minutes later when she returned to find the girl still in the pool, at the bottom of the deep end.

Members of the family performed CPR until emergency response personnel could arrive. Deputies and firefighters took over trying to administer life-saving care, and the girl was transported to AdventHealth Orange City. It was there that she tragically was pronounced dead.
