Palm Coast, FL - A 19-year-old male admits to deputies that he was on his way to a drug deal after he was pulled over for speeding.

Flagler County deputies stopped 19-year-old Jordan Mercarter's silver Kia on Belle Terre Parkway Thursday afternoon (July 9th) for doing 59 mph in a 45 mph zone.

According to the report, as the deputy approached Mercarter's vehicle, he began to smell a strong odor indicative of marijuana. That's when Mercarter admitted to having marijuana in the bag strapped to his chest. He also alerted the deputy to a handgun that was stashed near him.

Mercarter also admitted to the deputy that he did not have a concealed weapons permit.

Once the gun was secured by the deputy, Mercarter was handcuffed. A search of the bag he had strapped to his chest yielded marijuana and hashish oil that was packaged for sale. Mercarter soon told deputies that he was on his way to a drug deal with the firearm to use as protection.

A later investigation revealed that Mercarter also had a larger quantity of marijuana and hash at his home, also packaged and ready for sale.

Mercarter was placed under arrest and charged with possession of marijuana with intent to sell, possession of hashish, and carrying a concealed firearm. Two passengers were also released from the scene.

Jail records show that Mercarter has since posted bond and is no longer in custody.
