DeLand, FL - The Volusia County Elections Office has received a high number of requests for mail-in ballots and the first 100,000 or so go out tomorrow (September 24) for the November 3, 2020 election. Supervisor of Elections Lisa Lewis said so far, they've received more than 150,000 requests for mail-in ballots, and more come in every day.
Tuesday was National Voter's Registration Day and Lewis says there was a big surge. "Tuesday, being National Voter Registration Day, we had a lot of foot traffic in here (the office) plus, since the state of Florida has online voter registration we had a lot come over that way."
The deadline to register to vote is coming up quickly on October 5, just 12 days away. The deadline to ask for a mail-in ballot is October 24.
Lewis says early voting begins October 19 and continues for two weeks through November 1. If you don't want to send your mail-in ballot through the mail, you can drop it off at any early voting location. "When early voting begins, we have seven locations around the county that you can drop it off in person and they're brought back every night to the office. We have added a new early voting location, the Midtown Cultural Center."
