Deltona, FL-Dr. Paul Rehme will describe the signs, symptoms and treatments for Zika fever during a free program at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 3, at the Deltona Regional Library, 2150 Eustace Ave., Deltona.

Dr. Rehme, director of disease control for the Florida Department of Health in Volusia County, will also explain what is being done to prevent a large outbreak in Volusia County.

Zika fever is caused by a mosquito-borne virus similar to those that cause dengue and West Nile virus. It has been liked to serious birth defects, including microcephaly, when contracted by pregnant women. Local transmissions have been reported in Miami-Dade County, and travel-related cases have been reported in Volusia and Flagler counties.
