runners feet (2) Ormond Beach, FL – Chief Steve Cole, an avid runner and bicyclist, represented the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office in Crimestoppers’ seventh Run to Stop Crime 5K race Saturday, Jan. 14, 2017, in Ormond Beach. Cole placed first in his age group, 45-49, for running in the 5K race.
At least 160 runners participated in the races, which began and ended near Ormond Beach City Hall on Beach Street on Saturday morning. Ormond Beach police officers helped escort the walkers and runners on Beach Street along the Halifax River. Some participants did the 5K course and some did the 10K race.
The annual race is a fundraiser for Crimestoppers of Northeast Florida, which includes Volusia, Flagler, St. Johns and Putnam counties. Cole, a regular competitor in area races, said Crimestoppers of Northeast Florida is a nonprofit organization that is “dedicated to taking criminals off the street, thus making our community a safer place for all of its law-abiding citizens. They are very supportive to all of the law enforcement agencies in the 7th Circuit. Their roots run deep in Flagler County assisting law enforcement.” Copyright Southern Stone Communications 2016.
