Deltona, FL - The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office (VCSO) has identified and charged the person who sent a 6-year-old to steal a package from the front doorstep of a Tamerlane Street home on Monday.

A homeowner’s security camera caught a 6-year-old stealing a package, running back to a green Infinity sedan, and climbing into the back seat. According to the VCSO, video footage and license plate reader (LPR) technology helped detectives identify the adult behind the package theft: 20-year-old Santana Lindsey.

Detective Miguel Roman used the Driver and Vehicle Information Database and the make, model, and approximate year of the vehicle in question to find possible tag numbers. The LPR system used those tag numbers to find a match.

The registered owner of the car was located in Daytona Beach. Detectives later found out that the owner of the car was connected to Santana Lindsey’s parents’ house. The investigation led Det. Roman to find out that Lindsey takes care of a 6-year-old and drives a green Infinity.

Det. Roman then spoke with Lindsey on the phone. Lindsey confessed and agreed to meet with Det. Roman, but never showed up. Detectives arrested her at the home while she was getting into the Infinity. The stolen package was recovered and given back to the rightful owner.

Lindsey was charged with principal to burglary, child neglect, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. She was taken to the Volusia County Branch Jail on $5,500 bond.
