Daytona Beach Shores, FL - A 60-year-old Daytona Beach Shores woman was severely burned by a fireball on Monday when she tried to light a cigarette while using an oxygen tank.

Public Safety Officers from the Daytona Beach Shores Department of Public Safety and EVAC ambulance service were called to the Silver Sands Motel at 2119 S. Atlantic Ave. at around 11:15 AM on July 24 in reference to the woman with severe burns. Officials say about 10% of the woman's body was covered in 2nd and 3rd-degree burns.

The woman's roommate told first responders that she was burned at about 3 AM and he called 911 when she started having respiratory issues. Because the burns were so serious, the Volusia County Sheriff's Office Air One unit was called to the scene. They brought her to Orlando Regional Medical Center for treatment.
