Palm Coast, FL – A child was rescued from a domestic violence incident on Friday when his mother fled for safety from her husband, leaving the child in the home.
Deputies with the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) responded to a residence on Parkview Drive in Palm Coast at 12:32 PM, Friday, March 24, to investigate the domestic violence incident.
According to the FCSO, deputies learned that a pregnant woman had fled the residence after becoming involved in a domestic disturbance with her husband, Brandon Quaid Still, 24.
The FCSO reports, the victim told deputies that during the incident her husband beat and choked her and similar incidents had been happening for the past several years. She also told deputies that she fled leaving her child inside and her husband had access to a handgun in the home.
Around 1:23 PM, Transportation was contacted and members of the agency’s SWAT and Crisis Negotiation Teams were called to the scene and attempted to make contact with the husband, who was believed to be inside the residence.
SWAT Team members entered the home and located the child, crying in his crib. They removed the child from the home and continued their search, which led them to find a handgun on a window sill. Perimeter deputies found Still as he walked from a nearby wooded area, returning to the residence.
“This was a tremendous effort by our Community Policy Division and a number of other specialized units from our agency. I am thankful we were able to safely reunite the child with his mother and that no one was injured,” said Sheriff Rick Staly.
According to the FCSO, Still was booked into the Flagler County Detention Facility with no bond on charges of Aggravated Assault Domestic Violence, False Imprisonment and Violation of Probation for Burglary out of Texas.
