Parades Highlight MLK Day Observance In Volusia

Volusia County, FL - Local celebrations are planned as today marks the 50th anniversary of one famed Civil Rights leader, Martin Luther King Jr.

It all starts in Daytona Beach around 7:30 a.m. at the Allen Chapel AME Church on George Engram for a celebratory breakfast, then a march will ensue from Allen Chapel to the Greater Friendship Baptist Church, just a few blocks down on George Engram.

That march begins at 9 a.m., you can expect slowdowns between Washington Street and Charles Street.

A march also begins at 9 a.m. in New Smyrna Beach, that march runs from Mary Harrell Black Heritage Museum on 314 North Duss Street, to Old Fort Park.

And Woodland Boulevard in DeLand will begin their shutdown at 9:30 a.m. for their annual march from Stetson University to Earl Brown Park on 750 South Alabama Avenue. That march begins at 11 a.m.
