Votran To Host Statewide Competition For Bus Drivers & Technicians In Daytona

Posted

Daytona Beach, FL - Votran will soon host bus operators and maintenance technicians from across the state at the upcoming 2018 Annual Florida Triple Crown Bus Roadeo in Daytona Beach.

The roadeo, which is scheduled to take place at the Ocean Center (101 N Atlantic Ave.) on April 27 and 28, is an opportunity for transit workers from various agencies across the state to display their professional driving and maintenance skills. Competitors at the rodeo are striving for first-place honors.

Bus operators and technicians will both take a written test. Operators will complete an on-course competition while technicians complete a series of diagnostic tests.

In March, Votran held its own competition to decide who it would send to represent the agency at the statewide competition. Tracey McClary, who has been with the company for 16 years, will represent Votran in the fixed route competition. Fred Schrader and Robert Ward will represent Votran in the paratransit competition. Several other employees will represent the company in the maintenance competition.

The Florida Public Transit Association says the competition fosters a camaraderie among different agencies in the state and allows bus operators and technicians to continuously be trained. Winners will move on to compete at the American Public Transportation Association’s National Bus Roadeo.

This event is made possible by the Florida Public Transportation Association, the Florida Rural Transit Assistance Program, the Florida Department of Transportation, and the Florida Association of Coordinated Transit Systems.
