Volusia: Small Surf, Moderate Rip Current Conditions For Mother's Day Weekend

Posted

Volusia County, FL - Volusia County’s Beach Safety Division is expecting small surf, moderate rip current conditions and late-morning high tides during this Mother’s Day weekend.

The high tides could force lifeguards to close the beach to vehicular traffic intermittently. Beachgoers are encouraged to visit the less congested areas and arrive early for easier access. If they encounter a closed beach approach, they can check the beach navigator app for beach conditions and open approaches. Beach ramps may need to be closed 2 to 4 hours due to the tides. Off-beach parking is available at designated locations from Ormond-by-the-Sea to New Smyrna Beach.

Beachgoers should swim in front of a staffed lifeguard tower and should not sit or lie between vehicles. Alcohol and plastic cups are prohibited.

Parents with small children may want to opt for one of the county’s traffic-free zones. Parents should always hold children’s hands when crossing the traffic lane. Parents should accompany minor child in the water.

The beach navigator app and beach maps are available here.
