Volusia Sheriff Running For Reelection In 2020

DeLand, FL - He's back in the campaign saddle.

Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood will run for reelection next year, making it official by filing his paperwork yesterday (April 4th) at the Historic County Courthouse in DeLand.

Talking to reporters afterward, the Sheriff says he'd like to stay in the job for as long as the voters will have him and slammed county leaders for spreading bad information about Amendment 10.

The county recently filed an appeal to the Florida Supreme Court on Amendment 10, arguing that it's a violation of the county charter.

The former Daytona Beach police chief is seeking his second term as Sheriff after winning in 2016, replacing Ben Johnson after he decided not to run again.

Johnson is now a Volusia County Council member, winning Joyce Cusack's old at-large seat last November after she termed out.
