Volusia Hoteliers Post Strong Occupancy Numbers In January

Daytona Beach, FL - Hoteliers in Volusia County saw gains in January that continued an upward trend reaching back to at least 2014.

A new report released by Mid-Florida Marketing & Research - the company responsible for gathering and analyzing all kinds of tourism-related data for the county - shows that overall occupancy in Volusia area hotels rose by nearly 2%, increasing to 61% this past January from 60% in January 2015.

The occupancy rate in Volusia has risen by 6% since January of 2014 when it was 55%. The average daily rate rose by %10, from $100.27 in January 2015 to $110.55 in January 2016. The average daily rate in January has risen by 14% since 2014 when it was $97.01.

The revenue from each available room - or REV/PAR - increased by 12% from $60.18 in January last year to $67.11 in January of this year. Revenue jumped 25% this January from $53.48 per available room in January 2014.

The strongest gain in the area was in Southeast Volusia where the average daily rate rose by nearly $5 from January 2014 to January 2015 and then rose by $38.58 from $104.32 in 2015 to $142.90 in January of this year. Thats a 37% increase from 2015 to 2016.

Mid-Florida officials say the Rolex 24 race and cold weather locally contributed to the overall occupancy and average daily rate during January.
