Volusia and Flagler Counties - Volusia and Flagler Counties could see some of their coldest temperatures on record since early 2011, with multiple mornings of freezing or near-freezing temperatures through the weekend, according to the National Weather Service. Will Ulrich, a forecaster with the National Weather Service in Melbourne says there could be a few days with low temperatures dipping into the lower 30's beginning Wednesday night. Temperatures could feel even colder, with wind chills in the low 20's. Ulrich says that Flagler and Volusia Counties may be looking at a potential multi-morning freeze event. "People need to prepare for several days of very below normal conditions. Unfortunately, it's not going to recover much. Each afternoon, we're looking at highs in the upper 40's to low 50's, depending on where one is located," explains Ulrich.

Some parts of Florida may see some snow mixed in with rain, but Central Florida has a very low chance of seeing snow. "We don't think it's going to be cold enough for any snowflakes to mix in Flagler and Volusia Counties, but if folks travel up just a little further to the north, towards North Florida, those folks stand a better chance of seeing snowflakes," Ulrich says. The National Weather Service says that there is a low-pressure system expected to develop off the east coast of Florida on Wednesday, but the worst weather from that system will stay off the coast. Ulrich says that Volusia and Flagler Counties may see some "wrap-around rain" and some beach erosion. Once the rain subsides, Ulrich adds, residents should notice a significant drop in temperatures and could wake up on Thursday to near-freezing temperatures.

Along with the cold temperatures, high winds are expected for the area. The National Weather Service forecasts that the wind could die down slightly starting Friday and Saturday morning, but the low temperatures are expected to stay at or below freezing until then.
