Deltona, FL – One man is dead and another is recovering in the hospital after the boat they were in capsized sometime on Monday.
Volusia County Sheriff’s spokesperson Laura Williams said dispatch was contacted Tuesday morning just after 10 a.m.
The person reporting stated that 72-year-old Freddie Stills of Deland and 73-year-old Ernest Jones of Deltona had gone out in a boat on Lake Monroe near Deltona Monday evening and never made it home.
Volusia County Rescue, Air One, St Johns Water Management, and Florida Wildlife Conservation worked together and found Jones just after 11 a.m., clinging to the capsized boat.
Rescuers reported that Jones was exhausted and was transported to the hospital.
Unfortunately, Freddie Stills was found unresponsive around 12:30 p.m. He was confirmed dead at the scene.
