Volusia County's Looking For Recruits To Learn About County Gov. Operations

Volusia County, FL - Volusia County is looking for applicants to sign up for its Citizens Academy, where residents will learn about county government operations. Classes will be held between 8 AM and 5 PM on Tuesdays from August 16 through November 1. The program is free but applicants are asked to commit to attending all 12 classes. Members will meet at various facilities throughout the county including the Sheriff's Communications and Emergency Operations Center, the Tomoka Landfill, the Volusia County Branch Jail, the Marine Science Center, the Ocean Center, and the Daytona Beach International Airport. Topics to be discussed include growth management, community services, public protection, property assessments, and budgets. Participants must be Volusia County residents and must be at least 21 years old. Applications must be turned into the county manager's office by July 29, and only 25 people will be accepted into the program. Applications can be found here.
