Substitute Teacher Arrested For Molesting Student

Port Orange, FL - A Volusia County Schools substitute teacher is in the Volusia County Jail, charged with Lewd and Lascivious Battery on a Minor under 16 years of age. Volusia County deputies arrested 62-year-old David Lee Davis of Port Orange on Wednesday afternoon, just days after the investigation began. A school resource deputy was notified of the allegations on Sept. 27. The victim said the abuse happened between the months of April and September of this year. VCSO Public Information Officer Andrew Gant said that Davis has worked at several different schools and the concern is whether there are any other incidents. Here is the list of schools Davis has worked at:
  • Spruce Creek High
  • New Smyrna Beach High
  • Atlantic High
  • Seabreeze High
  • University High
  • Creekside Middle
  • Silver Sands Middle
  • Ormond Beach Middle
  • David C. Hinson Middle
  • New Smyrna Beach Middle
In an effort to find any other incidents, Gant said the Child Exploitation Unit is asking parents to ask their children if anything has happened to them. Gant said that the victim and Davis met during a previous school year, while the victim was still in middle school. The victim said the abuse happened between the months of April and September of this year. He said Davis had asked him to start coming over to his home, where he could help him with homework. Because Davis has worked at several schools in the district, there may be other incidents. Gant was quick to say there are none that the Child Exploitation Unit knows about at this time but suggested parents have a conversation with their children. The Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone who may have information about additional victims to contact the VCSO Child Exploitation Unit at 386-323-3574. Davis - who has run unsuccessfully in the past as a candidate for Volusia County Elections Supervisor - is being held without bond.
