Deland, FL- This week is National Rail Safety Week and the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office is taking part.
VCSO deputies are conducting “Operation Clear Track” Tuesday, with deputies assigned or conducting extra patrols at railroad crossings in the county. It’s the largest single day railroad safety law enforcement initiative in the U.S.
Florida ranks second in train-related fatalities with 43 people killed from trespassing on rail right-of-way and 21 more dying in collisions at railroad crossings in 2017.
Deputies will issue verbal or written warnings or citations for violators.
