Volusia County Emergency Operations Center Offers Behind The Scenes Tours

Volusia County, FL- Have you ever wanted to see what happens behind the scenes during a disaster?  Now is your chance.  Volusia County's emergency operations center is opening its doors to the public to learn about what it takes to prepare for a disaster in our area.

At the public sessions, visitors will learn what happens when emergency officials gather to coordinate disaster planning and response in this high-tech facility. Visitors will view the operations room where the county, cities and key agencies collaborate in making life-saving decisions. Visitors will also learn hurricane preparedness with the peak of hurricane season right around the corner in August.

This unique opportunity is hosted by Volusia County Council Vice Chair Deb Denys, the public has two sessions to choose from for a visit to the center, 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 24, and 9 a.m. Friday, Aug. 25. The emergency operations center is at 3825 Tiger Bay Road, Daytona Beach. The public is encouraged to RSVP by contacting Deb Somerford at dsomerford@volusia.org or 386-740-5224.
